There are so few good books on the shelves in any young adult section at the library, or at the bookstore. To make it slightly easier to find good books, I offer these suggestions:
Anything written by Agatha Christie. Her murder mysteries are wonderfully convoluted and impossible to solve, but not that hard to follow.
The Scarlet Pimpernel, by Baroness Emmuska Orczy. It’s historical fiction, and the tale is set in the middle of the French Revolution. Quite good, really.
All the Sherlock Holmes short stories and the four novels, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Scary, but my, Holmes was clever! Some of the stories could have been solved very easily with modern technology, even in Holmes’ day, but I for one forgive and forget, as it’s so fascinating to watch Holmes work…
I know these are rather different as opposed to the books featuring drooling vampires and staggering zombies, but these books have real, lasting beauty (in my humble opinion). I sincerely hope you find some thing to read in these pages. Enjoy!
*I will continuously update these pages as I discover more great books. Please feel free to comment on the selection, or suggest books that you feel should be included.
